PAGASA issued its heavy rainfall advisory at 5 a.m. Saturday, with Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, and several towns in Bulacan still under a red rainfall warning.

Luzon and parts of the Visayas will experience cloudy skies and rains due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), PAGASA said in its early Saturday morning forecast.

Monsoon rains will affect Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga, while occasional rains are expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro.

The rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Localized thunderstorms are expected in the rest of the country.

Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan began releasing excess water on Friday evening amid persistent rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

The Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirmed the water release, which was scheduled for 9 p.m., in a report by Jamie Santos on “Saksi.”

“The initial operation will involve the opening of Radial Gate A by 15 centimeters, equivalent to an estimated spill of 35 cubic meters per second (cms),” OCD Assistant Secretary Bernardo Alejandro IV said in an earlier statement.

“This is due to the continuous rise in the dam’s water level brought about by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat),” he added.

PAGASA said water releases from Ipo Dam may continue if rains persist over its watershed. The gates may be closed if rainfall weakens, depending on conditions in the watershed. 

A portion of the Aquino Bridge in Tarlac City collapsed on Friday night amid continuous rains because of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and strong river currents, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon reported. 

The incident was caught on CCTV at 11:56 p.m., according to footage released by the San Isidro, Tarlac City Information Office.

Motorists have been advised to take alternative routes as the damaged bridge has been closed to traffic.
