Alex Eala, Desirae Krawczyk withdraw from Pan Pacific Open doubles
Alex Eala and doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk have withdrawn from the Pan Pacific Open doubles draw, leaving the Filipina tennis star to focus on her singles campaign in Tokyo.
According to the WTA website, the tandem pulled out from the doubles draw after Filipino-American doubles star Krawczyk sustained a back injury.
Eala and Krawczyk, who is of Filipino descent on her mother’s side, were supposed to take on Hao-Ching Chan of Chinese Taipei and Miyu Kato of Japan in the Round of 16, but have now been replaced by Yulia Putintseva and Liudmila Samsonova.
The 21-year-old Eala is coming off a two-set win in the opening round of her singles run, beating British wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic in a 6-1, 6-2 win earlier today.
Eala is expected to be back on court on Wednesday for the Round of 16, where she will face Talia Gibson.
