Patrimonio, Capadocia arrange finals showdown in PCA tennis

Clarice Patrimonio and Marian Capadocia proved to be too much against their respective foes as they barreled their way to the women’s finals of the 30th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships.   Top-ranked Patrimonio turned back No. 5 Tamitha Olivarez-Nguyen 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, while Capadocia overpowered Mariel Ante, 7-5, 6-4, to arrange a finals duel on Sunday at the PCA indoor shell clay court in Paco, Manila.   "I panicked in the second set and failed to hit the ball properly. I relaxed a bit and lost my focus. I became more aggressive in the third where I changed my game a bit. And I kept her guessing where I'm going to bring the ball," said Patrimonio.   This will be Patrimonio's first final's stint in the PCA Open after being eliminated by 2010 champion Desirae Krawcyzk in last year’s semis.   "Marian is also an aggressive player and she improved a lot that's why it will be hard to predict how she’s going to play in the finals. I'll just do my best," said Patrimonio when asked on her chances against Capadocia, who is fresh from her Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships 2011 stint.   The ladies singles finals will be played at 11 a.m. on Sunday followed by the David and Goliath showdown of top seed Johnny Arcilla and newcomer Jurence Mendoza for the men's singles crown.   The men's singles champion will receive P100,000 while the ladies' winner takes home P50,000.   In the juniors division, Maia Balce defeated Jenni Celine Dizon, 6-0, 6-3, to bag the girls' Under-14 crown while Alexi Santos slipped pas Chloe Saraza, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, for the girls' 12-under title. — JVP, GMA News
