Arnis Grandmasters to draft implementing rules of sport
Filipino arnis Grandmasters will draft the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 9850 or the Arnis Law, before its full implementation this April. Arnis, the country's national martial arts, will be introduced in all schools nationwide this year. Negros Oriental Rep. Pryde Henry Teves, the author of the measure, said the crafting of the IRR will be on February 10 in Makati City. The meeting is in line with the promotion of arnis as a national martial arts sports. Teves, who hopes to see arnis become an Olympic event someday, and former Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri are sponsoring the IRR crafting in Makati City, according to a report on Visayan Daily Star. Teves said schoolchildren will already be taught the basics of arnis and its styles including "Doce Pares," "Balintawak," or "Caballero." — JVP, GMA News
