PAL Interclub: Canlubang makes move, trims Luisita lead to 12

DAVAO CITY—Luisita assembled a 143 in the third round but saw its lead trimmed down to 12 by long-time rival Canlubang in the 65th PAL Interclub seniors competition at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club. With a three-day haul of 439, the Luisita Sweeties remain in control of the championship division. Francis Gaston topped the scoring with 49 Molave points, followed by the 48 and 46 each of Richie Garcia and Lino Magpantay. "We are happy where we are now. This is better than trailing," said Sweeties captain Iggy Clavecilla. Playing for the Tarlac-based squad in the finale are Francis Gaston, Rudy Amata and former PAL flight purser Pepot Iñigo. Defending champion Canlubang, which overtook Cebu Country Club (CCC) for second place, pooled in a 147, the best it had with 18 holes left as the action shifts to the Apo Golf Club on Sunday. Tommy Manotoc turned in a one-over-par 71, worth 53 points and was backed up by Mari Hechanova's 50 the 44 of new recruit Rene Unson. Luigi Yulo's 43 did not count in the four-to-play, three-to-count format. CCC dropped to third on 420 after a 138. The consistent Montito Garcia submitted a 52 but teammates Lor Alaan and Anton Florendo managed a 47 and 39, respectively. Alta Vista occupies fourth spot with 132 for 405 while Camp John Hay was a far fifth with 134 for 391. Manila Golf lost ground in the Founders division after it signed for 127 for 399 at the Apo Golf Club. Riviera was 10 shots down with a 131 for 389. A further point back was Eagle Ridge's 123-388. In the Sportswriters division, Fil-Am Hawaii (136-372) dislodged Chamorro (125-365) from the top spot. Local clubs Apo (127-352) and Lanang (121-348) sat on third and fourth places.   Club Intramuros (101-323) had virtually wrapped up the Friendship division crown as Fil-Am Florida (98-290) trails by 33 markers. — JVP, GMA News Day 3 scores:
