Golf: Jay Bayron good for fifth at PGM-CCM Impian Masters

Jay Bayron emerged as the best Philippine bet after he scored a four under par 68 at the PGM (Professional Golf of Malaysia)-CCM-Impian Masters topped by Singapore's Mardan Mamat at the Impian Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sunday.   Bayron accumulated a score of 276 in the season-opening event of the Asian Development Tour, a total that included earlier rounds of 68-70-70. His fifth place finish tied him with Japan's Senroku Isa (70) and American Dodge Kemmer (72), good for a prize pot of more than $2,200.   Mamat, meanwhile, came through with a 69, his worst output this week, but still good enough for a win. Singapore's top player was sensational with a 66-67-68 in 54 holes, and his victory, his first after bagging the ICTSI-Philippine Open last month, was worth more than $10,000.   Malaysian Rashid Ismail captured the runner up honors with (62-271) followed by countryman Danny Chia (66-273).   Elmer Salvador (67-278) had a share of ninth place with Finnish Jani Perttila (66), Malaysian Lim Eng-seng (69) and Japanese Hirotaro Naito (73). A stroke further back was Antonio Lascuna (67-279). - AMD, GMA News
