Hometown bet Dizon dominates Davao leg of age group tennis tilt


Davao's Jenni Dizon ruled the girls' Under-18 and -16 divisions in the Davao leg of the 2012 HEAD Junior National Tennis Age-Group Satellite Circuit on Saturday in Davao City. The 14-year-old Dizon, a potential national junior team member, posted a 7-5 7-5 upset win over third seed Nikkirey Arandia to clinch the girls' U18 crown. She then added the U16 title with a 6-2 3-6 10-2 manhandling of top seed Jzash Canja. "I'm so happy to win my first leg title here. Not one but two titles," said the second year high school student Dizon, who is hoping to duplicate the same feat when she competes in the second leg in Koronadal City slated on April 9 to 12. Unheralded Joel Cabusas topped the boys' U18 singles division after a 6-2 6-2 victory over Nico Lanzado, while No. 4 Jan Jerric Accion whipped second ranked Jeleardo Amazona, 6-4 4-6 10-5 to take home the boys' U16 title. John Bryan Otico crushed Christian Fel Lopez, 6-4 3-6 11-9 for the boys' U14 singles crown. Maria Dominique Ong (girls' U14); Kristin Salimbangon (girls' U12); Hakeem Duma Bolto (boys' U12); and Mark Alfred Directo (Unisex U10) were the other Davao leg champions The doubles champions were Nikkirey Arandia and Jzash Candia (girls' U18); Trina Factora and Khrizzan Dumlao (girls' U14); Emer Cariga and Joel Cabusas (boys' U18); and Mark Alfred Directo and Hahan Abdul Cariga (Unisex U10). — JVP, GMA News
