Golf: Top seed Ardina to face teammate Guioguio in PHL Amateur Final 4


Top seed Dottie Ardina breezed past Eva Miñoza, 4 & 2, in their quarterfinal match play in the Philippine Amateur Closed Golf Championship at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite. Ardina battles ICTSI teammate Lovelyn Guioguio, a 1-up winner over Rainstar Roque after the 20th hole, in the semi-final match up that promised to be neck-and-neck race to the finals on Sunday. Sunshine Baraquiel, the second seed, routed Jan Punzalan, 7 & 6, to forge a duel with Jayvie Agojo, who defeated Apple Fudolin, 4 & 2, in the National Golf Association of the Philippines-organized tournament. John Kier Abdon continued his march to the title after he engineered 3 & 2 and 4 & 3 victories off Mel Cubillo and Rene Menor, respectively, in the men's division. Abdon will next face Gio Gandionco, a 4 & 3 conqueror of Ramil Roque in the morning then followed it up with a 1-up beating of Chepe Dulay. Jonar Austria disposed of Don Petil, 3 &1, and Lawrence Celestino, 1-up, while Andres Saldana overcame Joey Huerva, 1-up, and Reymon Jaraula, 3 & 2. In the mid-amateur division, Dennis Gonzales squares off with Jingy Tuason and Raymond Bunquin will test the mettle of Rodel Mangulabnan. Lino Magpantay, well rested after taking a bye in the round of eight, faces Caloy Coscolluela in the seniors division.
