Golf: Dumandan shoots for 2nd straight PGT crown at Sherwood Hills

Marvin Dumandan guns for consecutive victories in the ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour when he headlines the P2.5-million Sherwood Hills Classic—the third leg of the circuit—in Trece Martirez, Cavite on Wednesday (Spril 25).   Dumandan, the dusky Davaoeño, is fresh from a come-from-behind win in the Camp John Hay Classic in Baguio City where he rallied with a four-under-par 68 to beat Carl Ocampo-Santos at the CJH Golf Club.   Dumandan's latest conquest in Baguio City ended his year-long title drought. His last victory dates back when he pocketed two crowns in the Asian Development Tour—Eagle Ridge Classic and Aboitiz Invitational—late 2010.   "It has been a long struggle but this win should boost my confidence as we head to Sherwood," said Dumandan.   Dumandan expects to face a formidable challenge at Sherwood Hills with Santos-Ocampo hoping to come out stronger after that final round meltdown at CJH.   A host of other golfers are also out to challenge Dumandan for the top prize in one of the richest legs on the 16-stage PGT.   "I'm going to take a lot of positive out of this experience," said Santos-Ocampo after settling for runner-up honors in Baguio City.   Meanwhile, the leading pros test the wind-raked, challenging par-72 Jack Nicklaus signature layout on Tuesday (April 24) as they team up with officials and guests of the event's chief backers in the pro-am tournament. — Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
