Golf: Lascuna finishes second in Taman Dayu, earns P250,000
The Philippines’ Antonio Lascuna flourished with another good round of four-under-par 68 to secure a share of second place in the inaugural $75,000 Taman Dayu Championship topped by Sujjan Singh of India held in East Java, Indonesia. Singh slowed down with an even par 72 but his 10-shot advantage going into the final round never looked threatened as he cruised to a first victory outside of India with a 22-under-par 266 total at the Taman Dayu Golf and Resort. The new proud father came away with the champ’s prize of $13,125. Lascuna, whose sensational nine-under-par 63 in the third round tied the course record at Taman Dayu, capped a great week with a closing birdie in front of a good-size, cheering crowd. The three-time, 42-year-old winner in the domestic ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour wound up with a total of 282 in 72 holes and earned $6,025 for his feat. “It was good fun and I’m not disappointed with how I finish. Singh had a huge lead and it was tough to chase him down. I enjoyed this tournament,” said Lascuna, an Asian Tour regular. The other Filipinos who competed in the weekend rounds were Mars Pucay (69) and Jay Bayron (73) on 279 and Charles Hong (70) and James Lam (69) on 283. - AMD, GMA News
