Golf: Jay Bayron nets second ADT title in Indonesia

Jay Bayron of the Philippines staged a furious comeback in the last few holes to emerge victorious in the inaugural Bii $50,000 Maybank ADT Challenge in Jakarta, Indonesia.                  Three behind two-day leader Nicholas Fung of Malaysia, Bayron completed his stirring rally with birdies on Nos. 9, 11, 13, 17 and 18 for a five-under-par 67 and 204 aggregate. Fung, who looked to easy success with a five-shot lead with six holes left, the Malaysian bogeyed the 13th, 16th and 18th that paved the way for a Bayron win in the 54-hole event. “I didn’t feel that much pressure as I was starting the day behind Fung. I just told myself that I have got to play catch-up and focus on doing well. My heart goes out to Nicholas as it could have been his week. But that’s golf,” said Bayron, who won more than $8,000. “I had a very solid run in my back-nine and I was growing in confident then. I’m happy that I’ve won,” he added. This was Bayron’s second Asian Development Tour (ADT) title.  He won last year’s Aboitiz leg of the developmental circuit put up by the Asian Tour. Launched in 2010 with the aim of creating a career pathway for professional golfers in Asia, the ADT has gained support from Corporate Asia, growing its schedule from five tournaments in the first season to eight tournaments in the 2011 season. A record total of 12 events will be played this season with the top three finishers on the Order of Merit earning Asian Tour cards for 2013, ensuring aspiring professionals a proper career pathway. Filipino Jhonel Ababa checked in at second runner up with 64-206.  Michael Bibat was good for sixth (65-208) while Antonio Lascuna (67-210) was tied for eighth with three others.  Mars Pucay was 12th (70-211), Charles Hong was in 21st (73-215), Mhark Fernando 33rd (73-218) and Carl Ocampo 44th (75-220). - AMD, GMA News
