Golf: Well-rested Que aims for top finish in the Omega European Masters
Filipino Angelo Que, armed with a fresh body after a week's rest, is looking to improve on his debut in the Omega European Masters when he tees off on Thursday (Friday, PHL time) at scenic Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland. After last playing in the Asian Development Tour's ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship on August 18, the three-time Asian Tour winner took seven days of no golf and devoted time to his family that made him refreshed and relaxed. "I want to have a fresh start coming into this week and I think I’ve done that so far. I didn’t think of golf for a week and I’m coming here, hoping to start hitting better again,” Que said. In his first stint in the €2.1million tournament, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour, the 34-year-old enjoyed a finish of tied seventh in 2009 and is very hopeful that he can feature prominently on the leaderboard once again. “I’m hoping to reproduce that magic I made three years ago," he said. Also, a good run will mean that he'll go up in the Asian Tour's Order of Merit standings. Currently, he's at the 49th spot with South African Jbe Kruger still on top. “This is a good week for me to jump up the Order of Merit as there are only 30 of us here. I hope to have a good week so that I can take it easier and not worry so much following this,” he added. Other notable Asian Tour stars expected to mount a strong challenge are 13-time Asian Tour winner Thaworn Wiratchant from Thailand, Anirban Lahiri of India and Korean-American rookie David Lipsky. They'll battle against a stellar, world-class field that includes Major champions Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and Australian Greg Norman. - AMD, GMA News
