Golf: Princess Superal dominates 100 Plus Malaysian Junior Championship
Malaysia - Filipina Princess Superal fired a two-over-par 74 and cruised to the overall title unopposed at the close of the 100 Plus Malaysian Junior Golf Championship at the Saujana Golf and Country Club. The petite but steady Superal, who represented the ICTSI-The Country Club, ended with an aggregate even par 216 that included her 72 and 70 in the first rounds of the 54-hole tournament. Superal was ahead by two in the opener, but padded it 18 holes later by to 11. Malaysian Nur Durriyah matched with a 74 to place second with a 228. Aside from the main competition, the 15-year-old Superal also won in the Class B division (for girls' 16-year-old and under). The runner-up was Abigail Chong, with a 238 after a 76. "Her solid 70 in the second round somehow dampened the spirits of her foes. That's why she had an easier time in the last 18," said ICTSI-TCC assistant coach Carmelette Villaroman. For the final day, Superal bucked a double bogey on the third hole and bogeys on the eighth and 12th with birdies on the first and 17th from 4 feet and 6 feet, respectively. "I reached the green in regulation but my ball was in a very difficult lie. My first putt rolled out of the green and had to pitch again from 10 yards then two-putted to end it," Superal said. Her victory here was the fourth straight from the ICTSI-TCC team in four weeks. Jayvie Agojo won the Santi Cup in Indonesia, Cyna Rodriguez triumphed in the Hong Kong Am and Dottie Ardina was victorious in the Taiwan Am. - AMD, GMA News
