Golf: Veteran Minoza shoots for Canlubang win

Frankie Minoza goes for his first local tour victory starting Wednesday when he battles the country’s best professionals in the P1-million ICTSI Canlubang Golf Invitational at the Canlubang Golf Club in Canlubang, Laguna.                  The Canlubang leg is the second-to-the-last tournament of the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour (PGT), which will conclude its successful year with the staging of the P2.5-million Wack Wack Golf Championship next month.                  Minoza, the 51-year-old senior tour player, still has the will and heart for mixing it up with the younger ones. He is coming off a slim win in the Japan Seniors Open last month and shall be a contender this week.                  He might find a rival in Jay Bayron, who is also inspired after hacking out a hard-earned triumph in the PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Masters in the Asian Tour’s Asian Development Tour (ADT).                  Their presence at Canlubang’s demanding North course will certainly put more color and excitement in the Cangolf competition where about 80 golfers will give chase to the P1-million champion’s prize.                  Also participating this week are defending champion Artemio Murakami, leg winners Mhark Fernando, Carl Santos-Ocampo, Charles Hong and Zanie Boy Gialon.                  Jun Bernis, Cassius Casas, Ferdie Aunzo, Marvin Dumandan, Anthony Fernando, Clyde Mondilla, Richard Sinfuego, Carito Villaroman and the comebacking Robert Pactolerin are aiming for a win as well. - AMD, GMA News
