Golf: Ardina pads lead, now up seven strokes in PHL Amateur Open

Dottie Ardina finished with an even par 72 and padded her lead to seven shots after the second round of the Philippine Amateur Open Championship at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club Wednesday.

Ardina, of the ICTSI-The Country Club team, held an overnight two-stroke edge after the opener, then added five more today as none of her closest pursuers produced under-par scores at the East course.
The 19-year-old has a 142 aggregate in 36 holes to safely make the cut off in the 54-hole event for the ladies.

Ardina's highlight of the day happened from the 11th to the 13th holes where she made a string of birdies. That offset her earlier bogeys on the first, third, and ninth.

"There were putts I made and putts I missed. Pin placements were super hard and that may explain [why] no one turned in a great round. Everybody struggled," Ardina said.

Mia Legaspi followed Ardina with a 149 after a 74. Felicia Medalla, Wack Wack's bet, was at third with a 72 for 151. Princess Superal (77) and Koh Sock-whee (75) were next with 153, while Jayvie Agojo (81) and Nur Durriyah (78) were  two shots back.

Sophia Chabon (75-156), Bianca Pagdanganan (78-157), Cyna Rodriguez and Andie Unson, with identical 80s, hung on to joint 10th with 158. Lois Go caught the last bus with 81 for 159.

Singapore's Jerome Ng assembled a 74 for 226 to wrest a lead of one, off Filipino Rupert Zaragosa (80-227) in the men's competition also at Wack Wack. - AMD, GMA News
