Golf: Tabuena's 69 not enough to notch a British Open spot
Miguel Tabuena rallied with a three-under-par 69 but that was not enough to earn him a Major appearance in the Open Championship (British Open). Counting his opening level 72, Tabuena wound up with a 141 in the two-day International Final Qualifying-Asia which was topped by Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Japanese Hideki Matsuyama (amateur) and Daisuke Maruyama and Chinese Wu Ashun at the Amata Spring Country Club in Thailand. Kiradech, nicknamed ‘Asia’s John Daly’ for his grip-it and rip-it style of play, turned in an impressive 30 and added three further birdies to also join countrymen Thaworn Wiratchant and Thongchai Jaidee at Muirfield from July 18 to 21 Those who almost made it through were Javi Colomo of Spain, Panuphol Pittayarat of Thailand, Masahiro Kawamura of Japan, and Rory Hie of Indonesia. - AMD, GMA News
