Golf: Monsalve wins Faldo series in China


Marvi Monsalve did the Philippines proud after she won in the Girls' Under-21 division of the seventh Faldo Series Asia Grand Final held at the Mission Hills Golf Club's beautiful Faldo course in Shenzhen, China.      With rounds of 77-71-74, Monsalve, winner of two events in the Ventura County Junior Golf last year, finished with 222, two ahead  of Isabelle Leung (71-224) of Hong Kong.  Chinese Wang Zi-yi had a 74 for 226.      The 18-year-old Monsalve, who resides in Taguig City, Lawrence Celestino and Clare Lagaspi were among the 83 golfers from 17 countries, the largest field for an Asia Grand Final, who competed for the 2013 title.      Celestino, back-to-back champions of the Faldo Series' PHL legs (2011-2012) competed in the Boys' Under-21 while Legaspi played in the Girls' Under-16 in the event wherein winners got World Amateur Golf Ranking points.      Aside from the event, all the players experienced world class teaching from six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo, his personal coach Keith Wood and experts from Edel Golf and TrackMan who conducted clinics after each round.      The Faldo Series, initiated by Faldo, has now 40 tournaments in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.        Current World Number Ones Rory McIlroy (PGA Tour) and Yani Tseng (LPGA) were graduates of the Faldo Series.  - RAF, GMA News
