Golf: Superal headlines PHL team US-bound for Junior World Championships
Princess Superal, Pauline del Rosario and Sofia Chabon are all headed to the Junior World Championships in the US after they topped the girls' premiere divisions of the event's qualifying tournament at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club. The ICTSI bet wound up with a 298 against Uy's 299 after a 78. Chanelle Avaricio (77-302) placed third. "I never gave up. I knew that one good round will do it," Superal said. Del Rosario, who had virtually pocketed the Class B crown by the third round because of her huge lead, shot a one-under-par 71 that brought her total to 287. A far second and third were Annika Cedo (78-308) and Abegail Arevalo (77-310). Cedo and Arevalo, though, will be seeing action in the US since the top three finishers will represent the country there. "I played great the whole week. I was four-under in the last three days," said a smiling del Rosario. The 12-year-old Chabon, meanwhile, relished the fact that she'll be competing in the Junior World tournament, where some of our top golfers came from, like Carito Villaroman, Ramon Brobio, and Dottie Ardina, among others. She completed the four-day tournament, from the red tees, with a solid seven-under 281, thanks to a 67 and 69 to cap off her best outing. Harmie Constantino was two strokes behind at 283 while Bernice Ilas-Olivarez was at 288. Mikhaela Fortuna was fourth with 294. - AMD, GMA News
