Golf: Del Rosario takes lead after round 1 of PHL jungolf amateur championship

Pauline del Rosario made a birdie and par in the last two holes to salvage a one-over-par 73 to grab a one-shot edge off Malaysian Nur Eliana Binti Ariffin in the first round of the Philippine Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Cavite.

The 14-year-old del Rosario of the ICTSI team had a modest seven-par, one-bogey stint at the back nine where she began her round then caught fire with three birdies at the front to negate three bogeys for a 37-36 card. Nur and Princess Superal were tied on 74s.

“Everything went smooth today. From drives to putting,” del Rosario said.

With similar 75s and shared fourth place were Abby Arevalo and Daniella Uy. Felicia Medalla of Wack Wack and 12-year-old Sofia Chabon were bunched at sixth with 76s.  Korean Park Eun-che and Bukidnon’s Rainstar Roque wound up with 77s.  

Defending champion Pamela Mariano, a member of the Frankie Miñoza Foundation, was off form with an 80. Bianca Pagdanganan and Samantha Martinez followed with 81s. Koreans Kim Da-jeong and Koh Eun-a were next with 84 and 85, respectively. - RAF, GMA News
