MMA: Cain Velasquez demolishes ‘Big Foot’ Silva anew at UFC 160

It wasn’t as bloody as their first fight but the result was just as dominant.

Cain Velasquez, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, successfully defended his title with a first round technical knockout win over Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva, Saturday (Sunday, PHL time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, in the main event of UFC 160.

Velasquez tried to score on a takedown seconds into the fight but Silva was able to stop it. However, about one minute later, Velasquez connected with a brutal right that landed square on Silva’s jaw. The defending champion then went for the kill as he unleashed multiple punches to his grounded opponent to force the referee to stop the fight.

Back in UFC 146, Velasquez needed three minutes and 36 second to beat Silva in a bloody and brutal manner. This time, he only needed a minute and 21 seconds to get the job done.

In the supporting main event, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos made his claim for a rematch with Velasquez as he scored a highlight reel TKO win over Mark Hunt.

With blood streaming down his face, Dos Santos threw a jab and followed it up with a spinning heel kick that clipped the top of Hunt’s head. Hunt fell flat on his back and Dos Santos came crashing down on him with a right. The referee jumped in to save Hunt from more damage but Dos Santos was still able to sneak in another right to put Hunt’s lights out.

Ecstatic from his big victory, Dos Santos made his way out of the cage to shake hands with Mike Tyson and UFC President Dana White. Dos Santos lost the UFC heavyweight title to Velasquez back in UFC 55 but with his win, the Brazilian expects to complete his trilogy against Velasquez in his next fight.

“I believe I can be champion again and I’ll do my best to get there,” said Dos Santos. - Carlo Pamintuan / AMD, GMA News
