Golf: Arevalo scores 74 in day one of Long Beach Golf Festival

Abegail Arevalo produced a two-over-par 74 and stood three shots off the pace in the first round of the 83rd Annual Women’s City Championship, part of the Long Beach Golf Festival in California.
            
Arevalo, from De La Salle-Zobel and a new recruit in the ICTSI team, trailed by three against leader Yoshitake Taylor. Betty Chen of Castro Valley and Tai Kliebphipat of Panorama City were next each with 73s.
            
Cyna Rodriguez, who was not selected by the National Golf Association of the Philippines to represent the country in the upcoming 53rd Putra Cup, landed at 10th place with a 76.
            
Tied with Arevalo on fourth were Beverly Vatannanugulkit of Cerritos, Han Wu of La Mirada, Meghan Shain of Bakersfield and Kati Thompson of Lakewood at the El Dorado Park Golf Course.
            
The Filipinas will resume their bid in the second round at the Recreation Park Course. The championship round is set at the Skylinks in the third and final day. - AMD, GMA News
