Golf: Jed Dy wins by one at US Kids Golf World Championship
Jed Dy cashed in on a two-putt birdie on the last hole to give him a one-stroke victory in the boys' nine-years-old category at the US Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Dy, one of the players sent by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, finished the 54-hole tournament on 212 after a one-over-par 73 wind up at the Pinehurst number one, par-72 layout.
Up by five at the start of the final round, Dy found himself tied with defending champion Jackson Van Paris, who established himself as clubhouse leader, having played in the flight ahead and producing a five-under-par 67.
However, Dy shrugged off the pressure and reached the green in two. He sent his difficult 40-foot first putt two feet past the hole, but calmly put back the winning birdie putt.
The sterling performance of Dy highlighted a good campaign for the JGFP. Annyika Cayabyab placed second in the girls' nine-years-old category while Sean Granada ended on third in the boys' eight-years-old.
Mikhaela Fortuna of the ICTSI team and Samantha Bruce were in the top-10 in the girls' 12-years-old division. As a result, they secured slots to the US Kids Golf World Championship's World Cup.
Monique Arroyo, Mikhaela Arroyo, Aisha Nocum, Zeus Sara, Zachary Castro, Jet Ang, Marc Garreth Nolasco, Perry Bucay, Juan Gabriel Subido and Carl Jano Corpus were the other JGFP members. - AMD, GMA News
