Ex-marine Caros Fodor targets Shinya Aoki after ONE FC: Moment of Truth
Shinya Aoki, the popular Japanese fighter and reigning ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) lightweight champion, recently expressed his intent to stay with the promotion even as he was offered a contract by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
With that, he’ll either keep his belt or move down permanently to the featherweight division where he defeated Cody Stevens back in October. If Aoki decides to keep his title, two fighters will be raring to get a shot at him.
At ONE FC: Moment of Truth on December 6, former American Marine Caros Fodor and South African Muay Thai champion Vuyisile Colossa will both try to make their statement to convince ONE FC Chief Executive Officer Victor Cui that they deserve a shot at Aoki.
“I’m not taking any chances although I’m the better striker than him,” Fodor said in an interview after the open workout organized by ONE FC.
Fodor and Colossa separately won in thrilling matches during ONE FC: Kings and Champions in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Fodor, a veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce before joining the ONE FC fold, thrashed the previously undefeated Seung Ho Yang of Korea for three rounds in his debut match.
His compelling win sent notice that he is a potential contender for Aoki’s lightweight title. The same was said of Colossa who saw action in the main event, after he put up an impressive unanimous victory against veteran Japanese Kotetsu Boku, the former ONE FC lightweight champion.
“Since the beginning of ONE FC, my campaign [has been] for the belt, to fight for the title. That’s what I want, and Aoki is holding the title,” Colossa said after his win.
Fodor is already in the country to acclimatize to the weather. He first boxed at the Elorde Gym before training with fellow ONE FC fighter Rene Catalan at the Onyok Velaso Gym in Makati.
The fight will be a battle of styles as Fodor is more of a well-rounded fighter while Colossa is most dangerous standing up. During his most recent training session, Fodor displayed his compelte arsenal as he made his training partner tap out with armbars, kimuras, and rear naked chokes.
If he does the same against Colossa, he could be lined up for a battle against Aoki next year. - RAF, GMA News
