Next Manny Pacquiao will come from MMA says ONE FC’s Matt Hume
As his way of giving back to the sport that gave him so much, Matt Hume makes it a point to hold mixed martial arts (MMA) seminars in countries that his ONE FC events. Days before ONE FC: Moment of Truth, the company’s third visit to the Philippines, Hume thus held a seminar at the Heritage Hotel in Manila.
“It’s really just to help the local gyms here in the Philippines,” Hume explained. “Just to get out and make relationships with the gyms and really helped mixed martial arts in the grassroots improve. Give them things they can continue to work on until I can come back and show them more stuff the next time we’re here.”
Hume was initially appointed as the Head Official of ONE FC but he was since given a bigger role as the Vice President of Operations. He had a short professional MMA career but he faced some of the best fighters like Ken Shamrock and Pat Miletich.
“I’ve been in mixed martial arts all my life and I got a lot to give back,” Hume added. “This is an opportunity for me to give back to people who may not have access to information that I have.”
Helping MMA’s grassroots program is important for Hume as he feels that this will make it easier to discover more talent. With MMA gyms popping up all over the country and with the sports rapidly gaining popularity, Hume believes that the next Filipino fight superstar will be coming from the up-and-coming sport.
“I do believe that the next Manny Pacquiao will come from MMA and not boxing,” Hume said after conducting the seminar. - AMD, GMA News
