Tennis: PHL advances to second round of Davis Cup as Huey defeats Sri Lankan Godamanna

Treat Huey yielded one set before owning the last three, to defeat Harshana Godamanna, 2-6 6-4 6-4 6-4, on Sunday in the 2014 Davis Cup Group II Asia/Oceania competition held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association Courts in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

 

With the win, the Philippines advances to the second round of the competition. They will await the winner of the Pakistan-Vietnam match up.

Last Friday, PJ Tierro dropped the series opener, 6-3 6-7(8) 4-6 6-2 6-3, against Harshana Godamanna, but Ruben Gonzales was able to forge a split on Day 1, beating Dineshkanthan Thangarajah, 6-3 6-3 6-0.

On Day 2, Huey and Gonzales dispatched Godamanna and Rajeev Rajapakse in doubles action, 6-1 6-0 6-1.

 

Huey was a late replacement for Ruben Gonzales, who suffered an injury Saturday in the lone doubles match of the series. - AMD, GMA News
