Filipino-American former WBO super bantamweight boxing champ Ana Julaton is set to become a two-sport athlete, as Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole reports that she has signed up for mixed martial arts with ONE FC.

Julaton is set to make her MMA debut on May 2’s ONE FC: Rise of Heroes, which will take place in Manila.

Iole writes that in addition to her boxing prowess (13-4-1 with 2 KOs), Julaton also has black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Kenpo Karate, thus making the transition to MMA relatively easier.

"I have the background in martial arts and I've always had an interest in the UFC," Julaton told Iole. "But I started training in Las Vegas and that gave me the chance to go out and watch the fights more regularly. Doing that, I saw how there were so many different options. In boxing, you're limited to your left and right hands. In MMA, I understand kicks. I understand the ground game. It was so intriguing being able to fight with all these tools, not just my hands.

"I have been around all of the fighting arts for most of my life and this was something that just clicked for me."

Julaton’s last bout in boxing was a majority decision win against Perla Hernandez in November of last year.

The inclusion of Julaton would make her the second Filipino female MMA fighter on the Rise of Heroes card. It was previously announced that local boxing champ, Jujeath Nagaowa, would be making her MMA debut. She’s slated to take on Indian kickboxer Jeet Toshi.

Julaton’s opponent has not yet been revealed.  - AMD, GMA News
