Rugby: Volcanoes, Lady Volcanoes get mixed results in HK Asian 7s

The Philippine Volcanoes cruised by Kazakhstan before bowing to mighty Hong Kong in Day 1 of the Hong Kong leg of the Asian 7s series on Saturday.

The Volcanoes dealt Kazakhstan a 31-0 drubbing early Saturday, before suffering a 24-0 shutout against Hong Kong. The 1-1 card was enough a quarterfinal outing for the Cup on Sunday, but they overwhelmed by South Korea, 29-12.

Unlike their male counterparts, the Lady Volcanoes struggled on Saturday, absorbing three straight losses. The ladies opened up their campaign against Japan, ending in a 43-0 beatdown. The Kazakhs also denied the Philippines any scoring opportunities, en route to a 34-0 win. The Lady Volcanoes had their best chance against Singapore, but again they were denied a victory, 19-0.

The Philippines will compete for the Plate semifinal on Sunday against Thailand. - RAF, GMA News
