Filipino jin qualifies for Rio Olympics 

 

Kirstie Elaine Alora of the Philippines punched her ticket to this year's Rio Olympic Games after beating Akram Khodobandeh of Iran in the over 67kg class division on the first day of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers at the Mariott Grand Ballroom.

 

The top two finishers in each weight category earn berths in the Summer Games.

 

Early in the day, Alora beat Nisha Rawal of Nepal to advance to the semifinal where she faced the taller Iranian.

 

Alora is the fourth Filipino athlete to qualify for the Olympics. Previous qualifiers include sprinter Eric Cray and boxers Charly Suarez and Rogen Ladon. — APG, GMA News
