Lee, Yamaguchi awarded bonus purses

Asia's largest mixed martial arts promotion ONE Championship has decided to award its newly crowned women's atomweight champion Angela Lee and her opponent Mei Yamaguchi an additional $50,000 following their epic fight this past Friday in Singapore.

Lee and Yamaguchi went at each other time and again in their five-round contest when they fought for the inaugural title. Be it standing up or on the ground, both women kept the audience on their toes after delivering one of the most competitive and exciting fights in ONE Championship in recent memory.

"Due to her extraordinary display of martial arts skill and warrior spirit in the main event of ONE Championship: Ascent to Power, ONE atomweight world champion Angela Lee has been awarded a ONE Warrior Bonus of $50,000," ONE Championship chairman Chatri Sityodtong wrote on his social media.

"Mei Yamaguchi has also been awarded her fight win bonus for her valiant effort. Without a doubt, these two phenomenal martial artists put on one of the greatest women's MMA world title fights in history. RESPECT!!! I am almost certain these two will meet again in the future."

A ONE Warrior Bonus of $50,000 is awarded to a fighter if and when he/she managed to exceed expectations and delivered a one of a kind performance. Prior to Lee and Yamaguchi, the last receiver of the mentioned bonus was Filipino fighter Eric Kelly when he submitted Rob Lisita in 2014. — APG, GMA News
