Catching up with Pia Wurtzbach’s racer beau, Marlon Stockinger

Who's the guy who's making the most beautiful woman in the universe smile? Pia Wurtzbach's "favorite Swiss" Marlon Stockinger is actually proudly Pinoy at heart.

The racer dropped by GMA News TV's News-To-Go on Friday and revealed some personal details about himself. Here are some things you might not know about the guy who won the Miss Universe's heart.

He fell in love with racing at an early age

Stockinger may look as if he's some guy from Europe who wandered in Asia, but the truth is he spent his childhood in Cavite. The young Stockinger sat on the driver's seat for the first time when he was around 9 years old and he said in jest "It was my father's fault, I blame him for that!"

For him, nothing beats the adrenaline rush of racing

When he was 16 or 17, Stockinger went to England and wandered around while also pursuing his passion for racing. He became the first Filipino race in the F1 arena and he's still working on making a larger mark in the world of motorsports.

"It's the adrenaline rush talaga. It's a feeling you can't explain," he explained. "When you cross the finish line, you have this rush of accomplishment"

He added, "Whether you win it, whether you lose it — the feeling is always the same."

He only races in the tracks, not on the streets

Although he admits that there's an appeal in the "danger of going quick," Stockinger shared that the safety standards in motorsports usually means you can walk away from accidents relatively fine.

He's had one or two big accidents in his career, but he said that his faith in the agencies ensuring the driver's safety is strong. Racing on the streets, he said, is a different thing altogether.

"Not only are you risking your own life, you're risking the public's life — people's lives. I am very much against drag racing or racing on the streets," Stockinger asserted.

He gets frustrated with EDSA traffic, just like you

When it comes to driving in Manila, Stockinger revealed, "I'm pretty tame."

During his vacations in the Philippines, he prefers being driven around. The reason? He told News-To-Go, "I kind of get frustrated with the traffic here."

EDSA must be extra slow for a Formula 1 racer.

He also joins triathlons

If you think racing is just sitting in a car, Stockinger said that you should reconsider your opinion. To be a racer, he said, "You have to be fit, you have to be an athlete."

He shared that being a Formula 1 driver involves commitment and hard work. You have to keep fit and watch what you eat, because racing is also an endurance sport.

You know what they say about drivers and the kind of lovers they are

One last thing? He's very proud of his girlfriend and believes she represented the Philippines exceedingly well as Miss Universe 2015. He also told News-To-Go that he misses her very much. — Aya Tantiangco/RSJ, GMA News
