Pinoy fighter Jenel Lausa loses by unanimous decision in UFC Sydney

MANILA- Hard-hitting Filipino mixed martial arts fighter Jenel Lausa suffered his second straight defeat in the UFC following a unanimous decision loss against Eric Shelton on the undercard of UFC Sydney, Sunday morning at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Both fighters turned up the pace in round two after a back and forth exchange in the opening round. Shelton scored a takedown on Lausa but the Filipino attempted to end the fight with a kimura. Shelton retained the mount position and rained down punches at Lausa until the end of the round.

Shelton pressed forward in round three, throwing punches before taking the fight to the mat. He grinded away and thrown punches and elbows until the final bell as Lausa had no answer to Shelton’s superior ground game.

Shelton was awarded a unanimous decision nod after three five-minute rounds. The scorecards were 30-27, 30-26 and 30-25. It was Shelton’s first win in the UFC as he improved his record to 11-4 while Lausa dropped to 7-4. — LA, GMA News
