PWR suspends wrestler involved in unplanned spot at ‘Wrevolution X’
Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR) on Thursday suspended one of its wrestlers for performing a dangerous spot without prior knowledge of their fellow performers or the management during Wrevolution X 2018.
James "Idol" Martinez was suspended from active competition after a spot where he set himself on fire and dove through other wrestlers outside the ring in a match that took place at Sunday's event.
"PWR is committed to providing the safest possible environment for its performers, personnel, and audience members. Any factor that could endanger them will be treated with the utmost seriousness and importance," PWR said in a statement posted on their social media page.
In a separate statement made to GMA News Online, PWR officials said: "PWR prides itself in providing top-notch wrestling entertainment and enjoyment in a safe and controlled environment. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred without prior knowledge of the participants, as well as [the] management."
They added, "PWR reassures everyone that it will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all talents, personnel, and audience members moving forward."
Martinez is currently recuperating from burns sustained from the stunt.
"PWR wishes Mr. Martinez a speedy recovery," officials said. —Rie Takumi/LBG, GMA News
