Danny Kingad outwrestles Tatsumitsu Wada in ‘ONE: Hero's Ascent’

PASAY - Filipino flyweight star Danny Kingad of Baguio City's Team Lakay utilized every facet of his game en route to a unanimous decision victory over Tatsumitsu Wada of Japan on the undercard of "ONE: Hero's Ascent" Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

After a few exchanges of punches and kicks in the opening minute of the first round, Wada went for the takedown only to get reversed by Kingad. The Filipino dominated the grappling exchange, as he launched punches and looked for a rear-naked choke.

Wada was successful in taking Kingad's back in round two. While on the ground, Kingad prevented his foe from locking a choke by throwing punches even while trapped in a body triangle.

Kingad was patient and calculating in round three. Wada pressed the action, but it was Kingad who landed the cleaner strikes whenever they trade.

All three judges scored the fight for Kingad, improving his record to 9-1 while Wada fell to 20-10-2. — DVM, GMA News
