Adriano Moraes dethrones Geje Eustaquio by controversial decision
Adriano Moraes is the ONE flyweight world champion once again following a questionable unanimous decision win over Geje Eustaquio in the main event of ONE: Hero's Ascent, Friday night at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
It was a striking chess match in the first round. Moraes was mainly the aggressor, while Eustaquio looked to land his counter punches and kicks against his lanky foe.
Moraes finally went for a successful takedown in round two. The Brazilian was also successful in taking Eustaquio's back, but the Filipino's improved defense prevented Moraes from getting a submission.
It was another striking exchange in round three, with Eustaquio landing the clean shots by patiently waiting to counter.
In round four, Moraes went for a kneebar that left Eustaquio limping back to his corner. Eutaquio was precise with his punches in round five while Moraes went to score a couple of takedowns.
All three judges scored the fight for Moraes to everybody's surprise in the arena, capturing the ONE flyweight world title and improving his record to 18-3. Eustaquio, on the other, fell to 11-7 in his mixed martial arts career. — BAP, GMA News
