Former UFC champ Vitor Belfort joins ONE Championship
MANILA - Former UFC light heavyweight world champion Vitor Belfort of Brazil is the latest addition to ONE Championship's growing roster of MMA superstars.
Belfort, 41, is a living legend in mixed martial arts having fought the likes of Randy Couture, Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Chuck Liddell, and Tito Ortiz.
Having competed in the middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, Belfort holds an MMA record of 26-14-1 and finished 18 of his previous foes by knockout.
"Vitor is hands down, one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts. He is a legend across the world, and we are thrilled to have him as ONE expands into South America," said ONE chairman Chatri Sityodtong.
"A world champion in multiple weight divisions, Vitor is a massive addition to our ever-growing roster of ONE Championship elite athletes. I cannot wait to see his explosive power and his exciting knockout finishes inside the ONE cage."
While a date and venue is yet to be determined for Belfort's ONE Championship debut, he already made it clear that he came to Asia's largest mixed martial arts promotion with a mission to become a world titleholder again.
"I have been in this sport since I was 19 years old, and have been fortunate enough to witness its growth and evolution firsthand," he said.
"ONE Championship is the home of martial arts, and I plan to become a ONE world champion in front of some of the best martial arts fans in the world." — DVM, GMA News
