Philippines bags podium finishes at Beach Ultimate

Team Pilipinas won medals in all three divisions of the Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships (AOBUC) in Shirahama, Japan last June 16, 2019.

Both the Men’s and Mixed (co-ed) teams placed first, while the Women’s team, first timers in the competition, placed third.

The Men’s national team scored 12-6 against Japan. The Mixed team scored 10-8 against Japan, and the Women’s team scored 7-8 against Singapore.

Beach Ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed sport played on a 75m x 25m field with 5 players from each team. The gender ratio for the mixed format is decided by a disc flip.

Points are scored by catching the flying disc in the end zone of the opponent. The team to score 13 points first, or the team with the most points after 45 minutes, wins.

Over 600 players from 40 teams across 10 countries joined the AOBUC this year. — LA, GMA News
