Eddie Alvarez submits Eduard Folayang in one round

Former UFC and Bellator lightweight world champion had to survive an early onslaught from Eduard Folayang en route to a first-round submission victory at ONE: Dawn of Heroes Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

Folang, a former ONE lightweight world champion, scored early with his punches and kicks that cleanly landed at Eddie Alvarez. A hard leg kick from the Baguio City native sent Alvarez limping to the ground, but it was there that the latter turned the tide.

Unable to finish Alvarez with his ground and pound, the American reversed the position and went looking for a submission. He eventually caught Folayang's back, then locked a rear-naked choke that saw the Filipino tap at the 2:16 mark of round one.

The win improved advanced Alvarez to the finals of the ONE lightweight world grand prix where he is set to meet Saygid "Dagi" Arslanaliev. —LDF, GMA News
