A little over a month before SEA Games, some venues yet to be finished
With only a little more than a month remaining before the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games kicks off in November, some of the venues that will be used still remain under construction.
According to Ian Cruz's report in "24 Oras," the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, where nine sports will be held, is still under rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, a new building is being constructed inside the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, where the game squash will be held.
The Subic Bay Convention Center, Subic Gym and the Skate Park in Tagaytay City's constructions are also on going.
But despite the pending constructions and renovations, SEA Games committee chairman Ramon Agregado is confident that these will be done before the opening ceremonies on November 30.
The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) is also looking for other possible venues in case it doesn't go as planned.
"Tama naman po 'yon kasi di naman PHISGOC lang 'to eh. It's about PHISGOC, POC, PSC and even Malacañang is helping us na kung sakaling may problema itong venues na ito, magkakaroon ng plan B," Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez said.
On a positive note, Ramirez said six top Filipino athletes will be the flag bearers in the opening ceremonies this year, namely Carlos Yulo, Hidilyn Diaz, Nesthy Petecio, Kyumi Watanabe, Eumir Marcial and EJ Obiena.
The Philippines' newest Athletics Stadium and Aquatic Center at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac has also finally taken shape. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/NB, GMA News
