Athletics Stadium in New Clark City is PHL’s first Class 1 facility

The Athletics Stadium of New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac is the first sports facility in the country to receive a Class 1 certification from international athletics governing body World Athletics.

According to a Wednesday report on 24 Oras by Mav Gonzales, a Class 1 certification means a venue is capable of hosting big events such as the Olympics and other world championships.

The open-air stadium will be used for the track and field events of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which include dash, polo vault, and discus throw.

The stadium boasts an Olympic-quality track oval, fields, and nets.

The venue has a seating capacity of 20,000. Tickets can be bought online or on-site for P50, P150, and P300.

The facility also houses a VIP box for heads of state and other important guests.

Some Filipino athletes have already been training in the stadium or on the six-lane track outside it.

“Napaka advantage para sa aming mga athletes 'yung mga nakikita ngayon dito, yung mga meron na ngayon dito,” said national duathlon athlete Jelsie Sabado.

Security has also been heightened at New Clark City ahead of the opening ceremony on November 30.

Vehicles are no longer being allowed to enter without presenting a vehicle pass.
