It was a back and forth affair as both fighters traded punches and kicks in the opening round. The former UFC featherweight world champion from Brazil unleashed brutal leg kicks that found its mark, forcing Yan to switch stances throughout the contest.

The hard-hitting Yan managed to hurt Aldo in round three for the first time in the fight then started to take over in the next round as the latter started to show signs of exhaustion. Yan opened round 5 with a big left hand that immediately stunned Aldo on his feet.

While on the ground, Yan went for the kill as he rained down a series of unanswered punches prompting the referee to stop the contest at 3:24 mark of round five.

The title-winning performance improved Yan’s record to 15-1 while Aldo dropped to 28-7. — LA, GMA News
