UFC president criticizes judging in Volkanovski vs. Holloway fight
UFC president Dana White has expressed his disappointment in the result of the rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway in the co-main event of UFC 251.
The pair met inside the octagon for the second time last Sunday at Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, where Volkanovski successfully defended his UFC featherweight world title by way of split decision.
Many fans and media alike thought Holloway won the fight after five five-minute rounds, but two judges had it 48-47 in favor of Volkanovski while the other scored it 48-47 for Holloway.
“Listen, man, you can’t leave it to these guys,” said White during the post-fight press conference.
“We’ve got some bad judging. We’ve got some bad judging and I don’t know. I’m sure he’s [Holloway] devastated.”
The former champion outlanded Volkanovski in the striking department throughout the fight and even managed to score two knockdowns.
The media who covered the fight were equally shocked with the result, as nobody seemed to have scored the contest for Volkanovski.
“Did anybody in here score it for Volkanovski. Anybody have it for Volkanovski? Nobody in the media? I don’t know, we’ll have to figure it out,” asked White.
And since an official decision is always final in the fight game, White can barely do anything about it other than promise to improve moving forward.
