UFC will allow Khabib Nurmagomedov all the time off he needs, won't be pressured to fight
The world’s premier mixed martial arts organization will allow the reigning UFC lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to take as much time off as he needs following his father’s passing.
Earlier this month, Khabib’s father Abdulmanap, passed away from complications brought upon by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Russian was supposed to defend his title at UFC 253, but UFC President Dana White says Khabib is under no pressure to step in the octagon anytime soon.
“He’s going to fight when he calls me,” said White.
“A limit to put on Khabib? Khabib’s dad just died. His dad just died. When he’s ready, he’ll let me know.”
Nurmagomedov is tasked to unify his title with UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in his next fight. And while a date is yet to be set on stone, White says that the showdown between the two would likely take place at Fight Island.
“Probably be here [in Abu Dhabi],” answered White when asked of a venue for the fight. -- BAP, GMA News
