UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns recovers from COVID-19, ready to face Kamaru Usman

UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns has recovered from COVID-19 and is eager to face UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

The Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter, who holds a professional record of 19-3, was scheduled to face Usman at UFC 251 but was forced out of the fight after he and his teammates tested positive for the virus.

Burns was replaced by fan favorite Jorge Masvidal on six days’ notice to salvage the main event where Usman won the contest via lopsided unanimous decision.

“COVID free! Sem Corona!” Burns announced on his Twitter.

According to Burns, he is ready to get back to training camp and prepare for his delayed meeting with the champion.

And while a date and venue are not set on stone, UFC president Dana White already announced that Burns is next for Usman being the number one contender.

“I’m very happy with the results from the test after being quarantined for two weeks at home,” Burns told MMA Fighting.
