Georges St-Pierre shuts down Kamaru Usman: ‘It’s not worth it’

Former UFC two-division world champion Georges St-Pierre will not be lured out of retirement by current UFC welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman.

Usman successfully defended his title against fan-favorite Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 251 last July 12 at Fight Island.

Days later, Usman revealed that he wants to test himself against the man touted as the greatest of all time, St-Pierre, who last fought at UFC 217 in 2017 where he won the UFC middleweight world title via third-round submission against Michael Bisping.

But in a recent interview with TMZ, St-Pierre was quick to shoot down any talks of a comeback, citing that he no longer has the right mind frame to go through another grueling training camp.

“Do I really want to go back into a hardcore training camp, two months, put myself in jail so to speak and getting ready for hell? And I’m like, no I don’t,” he admitted.

“I’ve done it for a very long time and unfortunately in my sport there’s too many guys that retired too late and I do not want to be one of these guys. I’m very fortunate, I’m healthy, most importantly, and I’m also wealthy,” he added.

“I came at the right time, the right timing, I made a lot of money, and I think when I measured and calculated the pros and cons it is better that I stay retired.”

St-Pierre has nothing but praise for Usman, but with the way things are, he is convinced that he is better off retired than get back inside the cage again.

“I need to stay objective and smart about my decisions and right now to come back to fight for the welterweight title against Kamaru Usman and risk it all, there’s more cons than pros. So it’s not worth it for me.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
