Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje announced for October 24

The highly-anticipated unification bout between UFC lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje is official according to UFC President Dana White.

In a conversation with CNN, White revealed that the bout is going to take place in the last quarter of 2020.

“It's going to happen, I’ll tell you right here right now. That fight is going to happen. Khabib versus Gaethje, October 24,” said White.

Earlier this month, Khabib’s father and trainer Abdulmanap passed away from complications brought upon by COVID-19.

White said in a previous interview that the organization is going to allow Nurmagomedov all the time off he needs to mourn his father.

And while it was a devastating loss, it is quite apparent that Nurmagomedov is ready to step inside the cage again three months from now.

“It's been very rough on him,” White quipped.

“His father was a hero to him, he loved his father, they had a very close relationship and it was very hard on him.” -- BAP, GMA News
