Miocic, Cormier weigh in before UFC APEX

The highly-anticipated trilogy between UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier is official after both fighters made weight for the main event of UFC 252 on August 16 (Philippine time) at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

The defending champion tipped the scale at 233 pounds while the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Cormier came in at 236 pounds.

The rubber match is touted to determine the greatest heavyweight in history as both fighters have scored a stoppage over each other and are currently tied at 1-1.

“The truth is going into this fight with all the hype, one of these two that wins the fight, definitely goes down as the best heavyweight in UFC history and they’re both candidates,” UFC Dana White told ESPN last July.

Cormier has said he will retire after the fight.

"I’m going to miss the competition, I live for competition. I might be the most competitive guy on the roster, but it has to stop for everyone. Nobody has the ability to train and fight forever, and I know it. I can feel it in my preparation now,” Cormier told mmafighting.com.

In the co-main event, Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera were both on point for their bantamweight showdown at 136 pounds.

Featherweight prospect Herbert Burns, meanwhile, was 3.5 pounds over the limit while his foe Daniel Pineda came in at 146 pounds.

Undercard weigh-in results:

  • Junior dos Santos 238.5 lbs vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik 254 lbs
  • John Dodson 136 lbs vs. Merab Dvalishvili 136 lbs
