Kristina Knott breaks Lydia de Vega's national record in 100-m dash

Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 gold medalist Kristina Knott broke another record in Philippine athletics.

Knott bagged the silver medal in the women's 100-meter dash event at the 2020 Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Iowa, early Sunday morning (local time), after clocking in 11.27 seconds.

Her record surpassed the Philippines' national record held by legend Lydia de Vega for 33 years at 11.28 seconds during the 1987 Jakarta SEA Games.

During the 2019 edition of the biennial meet, the sprinter also broke national records after registering 23.30 seconds in the women's 200-meter dash, eventually giving her the gold medal. Knott surpassed the record held by De Vega at 23.35 seconds.

She also broke her own record during the biennial meet with 23.01 seconds in the heats of the said event, surpassing Thailand's Supavadee Khawpeag at 23.07 seconds during the 2001 SEA Games. — LA, GMA News
