Former UFC world title contender Glover Teixeira tests positive for COVID-19

One-time UFC light heavyweight world title challenger Glover Teixeira is the latest combat sports athlete to test positive for COVID-19.

Teixeira, 40, was scheduled to lock horns with Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Sept. 13 (Philippine time) at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

An initial report from Combate broke the news that Teixeira has tested positive for the virus 10 days before his next appearance inside the octagon. It was also reported that his fight has been merely postponed to Oct. 3.

The Brazilian mixed martial fighter with a record of 31-7 challenged Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight world title at UFC 172 in April 2014 where he lost by unanimous decision.

The six-foot-two veteran has won his last four fights and is hoping to get back to title contention should he get past Santos. – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
