Jerwin Ancajas will fly to the US this week to finalize next title defense

Jerwin Ancajas will fly to the United States on Wednesday to meet his handlers and finalize his next title defense. He will be accompanied by his trainer and manager Joven Jimenez.

The reigning IBF world super flyweight champion last saw action in December 2019 against Miguel Gonzalez where he won by way of sixth-round technical knockout.

Ancajas has been training and sparring for months even though his next ring appearance faced several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very excited to fight because we’ve been training and sparring since January but I’m not worried about overtraining him because we give Jerwin sufficient rest,” his manager told GMA News Online.

According to Jimenez, his prizefighter will make the ninth defense of his world title against Mexican slugger Jonathan Rodriguez in a yet to be determined date in Vegas.

Ancajas currently walks around at 138 pounds and would have to cut down to 115 for his next fight. Once in the US, Jimenez told that they will be given at least one month to execute the final phase of their training camp in preparation for the next fight.
