Conor McGregor accepts offer to fight Dustin Poirier
Former UFC featherweight and lightweight world champion Conor McGregor has accepted UFC’s offer to fight former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.
“Hello Dustin! I accepted the UFC offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.
“I’m ready for Nov 21st, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I’ll also still donate the $500k to The Good Fight Foundation.”
The pair received an offer from the UFC after they recently went back and forth on social media to discuss a potential charity matchup between them.
Though the charity drive is off the table now after the UFC stepped in, McGregor plans to keep his word by making a six-figure donation to Poirier’s non-profit organization.
The prospective bout would be the second time that McGregor and Poirier would meet inside the octagon should it come to fruition.
In 2014, the Irish superstar defeated Poirier via first-round technical knockout at UFC 178. Poirier rebounded from that loss and defeated some of the top names in MMA including Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway. -- BAP, GMA News
